The story

Teenage Julie finds her passion for music and life while helping the Phantoms -- a trio of ghostly guys -- become the band they were never able to be.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated pop-teen palettes: pinks, teals and sunny yellows against a small-town Ohio backdrop, with stage lights that flare into glittery bursts whenever the band plays. The camera moves with the music, bouncing through rehearsal garages and school hallways in bouncy, energetic cuts, while the ghostly trio are drained of colour in cool blue-grey wash, so every appearance feels slightly otherworldly. The soundtrack is full-throated, polished pop-rock with big choruses, sung live and dance-ready, and the dialogue lands in playful, quick exchanges between scenes. Vibe: warm, buoyant, cheerfully wistful, with a hint of ache. It suits a Saturday afternoon, a comfort rewatch, or background while tidying up with the volume turned up. Intensity is gentle: no violence or gore, some mild peril of the supernatural kind, and romance kept to shy crushes and hand-holding. Pacing is brisk and upbeat, and the emotional arcs follow a shy teen discovering confidence and a group of musicians learning to trust one another and to face unfinished business. It's for people who want an uplifting, musical comedy with heart, a touch of fantasy, and no real darkness.
