The story

Kamal Khosla's (Anupam Kher) peaceful retirement plan doesn't go as planned when his land is grabbed by a land shark, Khurana (Boman Irani). In a bid to retrieve their land, the dysfunctional family hatches a clever plan to con Khurana with the help of their friends.

What it’s like

Bright, sun-warmed Delhi in ordinary daylight: crowded lanes, cramped flats, the washed-out colours of a middle-class suburb, shot with a loose, observational camera that often lingers on a family arguing in a small room. The score is bouncy and playful, with cheerful Hindi pop cues that undercut the scheming. The mood is brisk, mischievous and warm, a sly caper that suits a lazy weekend afternoon, a comfort rewatch, or a light evening after a long week. Its rhythm is quick and farcical, built on escalating misunderstandings, deadpan reactions and sharp dialogue rather than suspense. The emotional register stays affectionate and good-humoured, following a quarrelsome household that pulls together against a smooth-talking opportunist, with the central figures gradually finding common ground. Intensity is very low: there is some slapstick and a brief scuffle, but no real violence, gore, sexual content or fear. It is an easy pick for viewers who want something gentle and funny, and for fans of character-driven Indian comedy with a satirical edge about property, greed and family.
