The story

In Ninja Gaiden Black you can reprise the role of Ryu Hayabusa, ninja extraordinaire. This sequel to Ninja Gaiden supplies a new story and new missions, plus two more difficulty settings and cinematic cut scenes that provide background about the protagonist. Ninja Gaiden Black also incorporates the additional content from Hurricane Packs 1 and 2 and includes unlockable content such as the original arcade version of Ninja Gaiden.

What it’s like

Dark, saturated night scenes dominate: moonlit rooftops, rain-slick temple courtyards, cathedral-like halls lit by torches and lightning, with blood spraying bright red against muted stone and shadow. The camera sits close behind the hero, so fights feel crisp and physical, and the combat's rhythm is razor-sharp, with flashes of parkour, wall runs, and slow-motion sword work breaking up long stretches of quick, punishing exchanges. Music leans on driving percussion, taiko-like drums, and tense orchestral swells, while cutscenes are quiet and tightly framed. The vibe is taut, stylish and relentless: cold adrenaline with a sense of ritual. The story arc follows a stoic warrior who stays composed under pressure, and the tone stays severe rather than warm. Intensity is high: frequent, graphic violence with dismemberment, gore and demonic creatures, plus frightening boss encounters and steep difficulty that punishes mistakes with sudden death. Its sexual content is minimal, though some female characters are costumed provocatively. Best suited to players who want a demanding, bloody action challenge and enjoy mastering fast, precise combat over long sessions.
