The story

Ryder and the pups are called to Adventure City to stop Mayor Humdinger from turning the bustling metropolis into a state of chaos.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated CGI in the glossy, primary-colour style of a preschool show scaled up to the big screen: sunlit city streets, candy-coloured vehicles, and a neon-lit night-time hub sequence that stays cheerful rather than moody. The camera moves in quick, busy pans and swoops across the city, with fast cuts and little stillness, so the picture rarely settles. The score is bouncy and upbeat, full of bright synth hits and sing-along pop, and the sound design is cartoonish, with whooshes, siren chirps and goofy sound effects filling every gap. The vibe is breezy and loud, a sugary Saturday-morning energy that suits a family afternoon, a sick-day watch, or a child's easy background viewing. Pacing is brisk and rhythmic, with short gags and a steady run of rescue set-pieces. The emotional register is warm and simple: a team of helpers learning to work together and a child's-eye sense of loyalty and friendship. Intensity is low: some peril and mild slapstick, with no gore, no sexual content and no real cruelty, and the threats are played for comic effect. It is for families with young children, and for anyone who wants a gentle, colourful, low-stakes animated caper.
