The story
Resident Evil 4 is a remake of the 2005 original Resident Evil 4 reimagined for 2023 to bring state-of-the-art survival horror. Resident Evil 4 preserves the essence of the original game, while introducing modernized gameplay, a reimagined storyline, and vividly detailed graphics to make this the latest survival horror game where life and death, terror and catharsis intersect.
What it’s like
Dim, sodium-yellow village nights and wet, mossy ruins give way to sun-bleached castle halls, all rendered in a grounded, high-contrast realism with heavy shadow and warm lamplight pooling on stone. The camera sits tight over the shoulder, so every aim is a held breath, and the framing lingers on cramped interiors and open muddy fields alike. Sound does much of the work: long stretches of creaking wood, distant bells and wind, then a sudden guttural groan or a crack of gunfire that snaps the room tight. The score swells in bursts of percussive dread and quiets to near silence between fights. Vibe: tense, grimy, theatrical, with a grim sense of humour threaded through. Violence is frequent and explicit: zombie-like enemies are dismembered, impaled and burned in close-up gore, and jump scares and grisly set pieces are common. Pacing alternates between scavenging, inventory juggling and sudden chaotic combat, and the story is driven by a tough, weary protagonist slowly uncovering something sinister. Best for players who want a cinematic, pressure-heavy survival horror with real bite, not something gentle.
