What it’s like

Sekiro's Game of the Year Edition is a sepia-washed Sengoku-era world of ink-dark forests, moonlit temple ruins, and smoke drifting over burning castle towns, rendered with a painterly, desaturated palette that turns blood into the sharpest colour on screen. Its sound leans on sparse wooden clatter, wind through reeds, and a score of taiko drums, shakuhachi and mournful strings that swells sharply during duels and falls silent between them. Combat is fast, precise and unforgiving, built around parrying and posture, and violence is frequent and graphic: bloody sword strikes, dismemberment, and gory finishing moves, with dread and pressure rather than gratuitous shock. Its tone is grim, austere and melancholic, following a one-armed warrior's stubborn loyalty to a young lord in a bleak, rain-soaked land, and the pacing alternates long stretches of quiet exploration with tense, rhythmic boss fights. This suits late-night play with the lights low, for players who want a demanding, atmospheric action game with rich lore, strong music and a sense of hard-won progress.
