The story
Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition is the PC release, as well as the PS3 and Xbox 360 re-release, of Dark Souls, including the Artorias of the Abyss DLC.
What it’s like
Murky, desaturated fantasy rendered in grey-brown stone, rust, and sickly green, with dim torchlight pooling in cathedral-like ruins and fog banks rolling over crumbling battlements. The camera sits close behind a heavy-armoured figure, so every swing, roll, and stumble lands with weight, and the frequent lurch of a fight is broken by long, eerie silences filled only by distant chimes, wind, and the clank of steel. Its vibe is brooding, austere dread with a bleak, grim beauty; it suits a late evening alone with the lights off, or a stretch of patient, low-light play when you want the world to feel cold and unforgiving. Pacing is deliberate and punishing: progress comes in hard-won inches, with a quiet, stubborn arc that turns a fragile, nameless wanderer into someone who has survived a lot of failure. Violence is frequent and stylised, with grisly enemy designs, blood spurts, and sudden deaths; fear comes from ambush and attrition more than gore, and it is never gentle. It is for players who want a challenging, atmospheric action RPG where dread, persistence, and the slow reward of mastery matter more than comfort, and who enjoy co-op or invasion-style encounters with strangers.
