What it’s like
Bright, sun-scorched arenas of crumbling temples, dusty plazas and open desert, rendered in saturated oranges and blues under a hard noon sun, with the screen often crowded by swarms of charging monsters. The sound is loud and relentless: pounding electronic and rock-tinged music, gunfire, shrieking creatures and Sam's wisecracks cutting through it all. Pacing is frantic and arcade-like, with short bursts of exploration broken up by mass-combat set pieces that keep escalating. The vibe is cheerful mayhem, a rowdy, self-aware B-movie spectacle rather than anything grim. Violence is constant and heavy, with exploding gore, blood and decapitations, but it is cartoonishly over the top and the tone stays playful, so it lands as comic carnage rather than dread. Plays well as a loud co-op session with friends, in split-screen on a couch, or as a high-energy VR workout. Best for players who want fast, unapologetically silly shooting with huge crowds of enemies and no emotional weight.
