The story

SSX Tricky is a snowboarding video game, the second game in the SSX series published by EA Sports Big & developed by EA Canada. The game was developed under the working title SSX 2.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated alpine colour sits against glittering white snow, with sunlit mountain faces, crisp blue skies, and night runs under floodlit pylons and a rush of stars. The visuals are glossy and arcade-clean rather than gritty, with fast camera swings that pull in close behind a rider and exaggerated, cartoonish character designs. The soundtrack is loud and licensed, a constant stream of rock, hip-hop and electronic tracks, with a bouncing commentary track layered over every run. Sessions feel fast and bold: a rush of grinds, jumps and tricks chained into a big score, with a fizzy, high-energy rhythm that rewards restless, quick-reaction play. The vibe is exuberant, cheeky and a little rowdy, the kind of thing for a Saturday afternoon, a sugar-rush session, or a party with friends passing the controller around. The stakes are playful; rivals bicker and grudges get settled on the slopes, all in a light, competitive register. Violence is absent and there is no gore, though the rough-and-tumble crashes and combat-racing jabs add some bump and tumble. It suits anyone who wants a loud, colourful, high-speed arcade thrill with a retro-2001 soundtrack.
