The story
Put quite simply, this is the amalgamation of the previously released Super Mario All-Stars compilation with Super Mario World added. While games already in the All-Stars bundle have major graphical and audio improvements, the only change made to Super Mario World is a slight tweak of Luigi's graphic sprites, making him slightly thinner and taller (rather than being the same height and stature of Mario) which does not affect gameplay.
What it’s like
Bright, chunky pixel art in saturated primary colours: sky-blue backdrops, grassy green hills, brick-red castles and lava-orange underground caverns, all rendered with the crisp, cheerful clarity of the Super Nintendo. The sound is bouncy and familiar, with chiptune melodies that loop cheerfully under every jump and coin pickup. Movement is springy and precise, so the feel in the hands is the real pleasure: short, tight hops, sliding momentum and the satisfying stomp of a well-timed bounce. Vibe: sunny, nostalgic and warmly playful, with a gentle sense of wandering through a colourful storybook. It suits a lazy weekend afternoon, a comfort replay, or a short session on the couch with a friend taking turns. Pacing is brisk but forgiving, with levels that reward curiosity over reflexes. Intensity is very mild: cartoonish enemies are defeated by stomping or fireballs, with no gore, no fear-heavy content and no sexual material. It is well suited to families, younger players and anyone who wants a cheerful, low-stress challenge with a nostalgic glow.
