The story

Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World is a remake of Super Mario World for the Game Boy Advance starring Mario's dinosaur friend Yoshi for the first time. Super Mario Advance is a four-part series for the GBA with Super Mario games of the NES and SNES era. The remakes came with adjusted graphics, sound and additional content. Each game of the series includes additionally the arcade-classic "Mario Bros" which can be played in multiplayer via link cable.

What it’s like

Bright, sun-washed pixel art with cheerful pastel skies, rolling green hills, and sprites that bounce and wobble with comic exaggeration. The overworld map feels like a sunlit storybook, dotted with pipes, castles, and grassy islands to wander between, while stages shift from sunny meadows to dim cave tunnels and eerie ghost houses. The chiptune score is bouncy and cheerful, with the familiar stomp-and-coin chimes that make every small success feel satisfying. In the hand, it's crisp and responsive, the jumps tight and forgiving, with Yoshi's tongue and flutter adding a playful new rhythm to familiar levels. Pacing is brisk within each stage and leisurely across the map, so sessions can be a quick hop or a long wander. Violence is minimal and cartoonish: enemies are stomped or bopped away, with no gore and no real fear beyond a few tense jumps. The mood is light, nostalgic, and warmly playful, well suited to a relaxed evening, a comfort replay, or a shared session with a friend using the link-cable Mario Bros. bonus. It's for players who want gentle, joyful platforming and the pleasure of rediscovering a classic.
