The story

The Binding of Isaac: Repentance is the ultimate edition of the genre-defining roguelike, with so many additions and improvements that it feels like a brand new game. Experience Isaac's adventures with new twists, terrifying turns and over 500 hours of new gameplay!

What it’s like

Crude, hand-drawn art in a grotesque, fleshy palette: pale, sickly children's-drawing figures set against dark basement rooms of rust, bile-green and blood-red, with the screen busy with tears, gore splatter and bursting pustules. Sound is a jittery mix of tinny chiptune and ominous organ and choir stings, punctuated by squelches and wet thuds, so each floor feels like sitting inside a nightmare someone has doodled in the margins of a hymnal. Movement is top-down and twin-stick, with the camera locked overhead and rooms that reset with every run, giving a rhythm of short, tense sprints broken by bursts of absurd, almost slapstick reward when a strange item drops. Vibe: darkly comic, abrasive and feverish, with an undertone of religious unease. Violence is constant but cartoonish, with frequent blood, grotesque monsters and body horror, and some sexual and drug-adjacent imagery, all stylised rather than realistic. It lands as frantic and gleefully disturbing rather than dread-soaked. Not suited to anyone seeking something gentle. Made for roguelike devotees who enjoy grim humour, endless replayability and the thrill of a run that hinges on one lucky item.
