The story

The Hangover crew heads to Thailand for Stu's wedding. After the disaster of a bachelor party in Las Vegas last year, Stu is playing it safe with a mellow pre-wedding brunch. However, nothing goes as planned and Bangkok is the perfect setting for another adventure with the rowdy group.

What it’s like

Bright, sun-bleached Bangkok rendered in harsh daylight, saturated street colour, and grimy neon at night, with the camera mostly kept handheld and close as the men lurch through markets, a tattoo parlour and a rooftop that never quite feels safe. The score is a jaunty mix of pop and sly comic stings, and the sound design leans on slapstick beats, shouted banter and the occasional gasp of shock. The vibe is raucous, sticky and mildly chaotic, a hangover-coloured comedy best suited to a loud night in with friends or a lazy weekend when you want to laugh rather than think. Pacing is brisk, with jokes stacked on top of each other and a steady momentum that rarely lets up. Tone runs cynical and goofy, with a sense of friends who love each other even as they keep wrecking things; the central arc is an anxious man who wants control and gradually learns to let loose. Intensity is moderate to high: frequent crude sexual humour, drug use, nudity, profanity, and brief scuffles and injuries played for laughs, with a few darker moments of peril that never sustain real dread. For people who want a crude, rowdy comedy with a hopeless-friends energy and no emotional heaviness.
