The story

Left Behind is the first single player DLC for the critically acclaimed survival horror game The Last of Us, developed by Naughty Dog.

What it’s like

Warm amber light spills through a suburban mall and a cramped high school in the fading days before everything fell apart, then gives way to the grey-green gloom of a quarantine zone overrun by infected. The art direction leans on dust motes in sunlight, rain-slicked concrete, and the hush of abandoned rooms, while the score stays sparse, with a few mournful strings and long stretches of wind and distant groans. Scavenging, crafting and stealth shape the pace: tense, deliberate encounters with the infected punctuated by quiet walks and conversations that linger. The emotional register is melancholy and tender, built around a close friendship between two teenagers and the bond that forms under pressure. Violence is frequent and sometimes brutal, with close-quarters fights, gunfire, and grisly infected deaths, and there is a constant undercurrent of dread and jump scares, though no sexual content. It suits a late-night session alone with headphones, and it is for players who want story-driven survival horror with an intimate, character-first heart.
