The story

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 is a skateboarding sports game played from a third-person view across a set of urban environments. Players control professional or fictional skaters and chain together tricks such as grinds, grabs, flips, and lip tricks, using manuals to link combos into longer scoring runs. The career mode tasks players with completing level objectives and competitions to earn cash, which is used to unlock new levels and characters and to improve a skater's stats and equipment. It also includes free skate and single session modes, several competitive multiplayer games, and a level editor for building custom parks. It is the second entry in the Tony Hawk's series.

What it’s like

Saturated, high-contrast polygons in bright daylight, with warm sunsets over shopping-mall rooftops, warehouse yards, and school grounds full of ramps and rails. The camera trails the skater from behind and swings smoothly through each course, and the bink-video cutscenes have the grainy, sun-faded look of late-nineties footage. The soundtrack is loud pop-punk and alt-rock that pulses through every run. The pace is brisk and rhythmic: a run of grinds and manuals builds a score while a countdown ticks down, then the screen resets and you go again. Wipeouts are cartoonish tumbles with no real gore, and the mood stays playful and competitive rather than tense. It suits an evening session with friends on split screen, a stretch of quick unwinding alone, or a nostalgic return to something cheerful and kinetic. It is made for people who enjoy mastering a tight physical rhythm, chasing high scores, and unlocking one more level.
