The story

Reacquaint yourself with fortune hunter Nathan Drake through a tale of life-threatening danger, exotic locations and heroic rescue missions. Delve into the secrets of Marco Polo's doomed voyage and the legendary Himalayan valley of Shambhala. You’ll cross paths with some old faces plus brand new adversaries, including a deadly fugitive war criminal. Tackle challenging puzzles, battle deadly foes and adventure across varied terrain ranging from snowy landscapes and jungles, to war-torn cityscapes and ancient temples. Experience the classic PlayStation3 adventure, now on PlayStation4.

What it’s like

Sunlit jungle canopies give way to snowbound mountain passes, shattered Nepalese temples and a rain-soaked, war-torn city, all rendered with a warm, painterly polish that makes each location feel lived in and worth lingering over. Light is the constant: golden-hour glow through leaves, cold blue dusk on the snow, dust hanging in beams inside ruins. Camera work is cinematic and mobile, with sweeping wide shots during traversal and tight, shoulder-level framing in firefights. The score swells with orchestral adventure cues and drops to ambient quiet during climbing and puzzle solving. Vibe: swashbuckling, buoyant, a little bit reckless. It suits a Saturday afternoon with a controller, or an evening when you want something bright and kinetic. Pacing alternates brisk running, climbing and gunplay with dialogue-driven breathers, and the banter between Nathan Drake and his sidekicks gives the story a playful, bantering warmth. Violence is frequent and cartoonish: many enemies are shot and killed, with some brief hand-to-hand brawling and no gore to speak of, and tension comes from peril and chases rather than dread. For players who enjoy puzzle-platforming with a blockbuster adventure feel and a light, wisecracking tone.
