The story
Follow the exploits of the Creature Commandos, a secret team of incarcerated monsters recruited for missions deemed too dangerous for humans. When all else fails... they're your last, worst option.
What it’s like
Hand-drawn, slightly grimy adult animation with bold outlines, flat saturated colour and a retro pulp sheen, the kind of look that lives in cramped bunkers, sewer tunnels and sterile government corridors lit by buzzing overhead fluorescents. Its vibe is irreverent and scrappy, a dark-comedy romp with a mischievous streak, and it suits a loud Friday night, a binge with friends, or a rewatch when you want something that is funny without being precious. The episodes move briskly, with gags and sudden tonal swerves that land between goofy slapstick and grisly splatter. Its violence is frequent, bloody and cartoonishly graphic, with gore, dismemberment and crude sexual humour, though it plays for laughs more than dread. The emotional register is broad and warm underneath the mayhem, following a band of misfit monsters who bicker, bond and slowly find something like family. It is for viewers who enjoy irreverent genre comedy and don't mind rough language and extreme gore, and it is a poor fit for anyone wanting something gentle.
