The story

Dark Souls III: The Fire Fades Edition is a complete edition of Dark Souls III, released in April 2017. It includes the base game along with both DLC expansions: Ashes of Ariandel and The Ringed City. This edition offers the full Dark Souls III experience, combining the main game and all additional content into one package.

What it’s like

Gothic decay rendered in murky, desaturated tones: ash-grey cathedral stone, rust-brown ruins, sickly green swamps and bone-white snowfields under a flat, overcast sky, with the occasional blaze of orange firelight to pull the eye. The camera stays close and third-person, so every fight feels physical, and the world rewards patient looking, with towers, shortcuts and vistas that unfold slowly as you climb. Sound is sparse: wind moaning through broken halls, distant bells, the heavy clank of armour and a cello-like swell of score that surfaces only at major encounters. The vibe is melancholy and grim, a mournful dark fantasy where hope is thin but never absent. Combat is demanding and punishing, with sudden deaths and brutal, bloody hits, though the violence is stylised and bodies fall without lingering gore. It suits late nights with the lights low, long stretches of focused solitude, or a weekend of dogged determination. Best for players who love atmosphere-driven challenge, methodical learning, and a bleak, beautiful world they can explore at their own pace, with optional cooperative play for company.
