The story

Limbus Company is a darkly stylish turn-based strategy RPG from Project Moon, set in the same universe as Lobotomy Corporation and Library of Ruina. As the Manager of Limbus Company, you must command a crew of twelve "Sinners"—distorted individuals based on classic literature—aboard the Mephistopheles bus. Your mission is to retrieve the Golden Boughs, powerful relics scattered across the ruins of a dystopian City. The game features a unique clash-based combat system where winning skill clashes is key to victory. Deep team customization is achieved through the "Identity" system, allowing you to assign different roles and skill sets to each Sinner. Uncover a grim narrative as you battle abnormalities, rival syndicates, and the inner demons of your own crew.

What it’s like

Hand-drawn character portraits sit over dim, grimy backdrops of ruined city streets, with the palette leaning on bruised purples, sickly teals and the flat red of alarm lights against cold grey. Its presentation is stylish and theatrical: sharp dialogue boxes, sudden flashes of colour during combat clashes, and portraits that jolt and tilt on impact. The soundtrack mixes orchestral swells with dissonant electronic pulses and long quiet stretches on the bus, and the whole thing carries a cynical, uncanny mood that feels like sitting up late with a dark anime and a notebook full of team builds. Pacing is deliberate: long conversational scenes and text-heavy exploration give way to tense, puzzle-like turn fights where timing and reading an opponent matter more than reflexes. Its tone is bleak and darkly comic, with a steady undercurrent of dread and body horror, and the arcs follow damaged characters forced to face their own pasts and guilt. Violence is stylised and frequent, mostly bloody but not graphic, with unsettling imagery and some disturbing themes. It suits players who enjoy strategy depth, gacha-free-feeling collection, and grim, literary storytelling wrapped in strong art direction.
