The story
Resident Evil 4 is directly based off the Wii port, having all the new features that the Wii added. Some of the key features of this version are stunning HD graphics running at a smooth 60 frames per second for the first time. It also features a complete visual overhaul to bring this revered title to the highest graphical quality ever. It has been fully optimized for the wide screen, texts have been sharpened and textures have been upgraded on characters, backgrounds and in-game objects. However, it should be noted that the cutscenes of the Separate Ways scenario are not in HD and have had their resolution lowered and placed in sepia format. Aside from the updated HUD, the Movie Browser is fixed to now display real time cut-scenes instead of the PS2 pre-rendered cut-scene, like it was the Wii version. The Mercenaries costumes cheat remain and fully work.
What it’s like
Dim, lamplit European villages and crumbling stone castles under overcast skies, with fog, drizzle and firelight pooling on weathered wood and rusted iron. The over-the-shoulder camera stays close and restless, so every corridor feels cramped and every doorway a gamble. The sound design leans on creaking floorboards, distant church bells and sudden orchestral stings, with long stretches of near silence broken by the crack of a shotgun. Its vibe is grim, pulpy dread with a wry edge, well suited to a late-night session alone with headphones on or a long weekend of tense, satisfying fights. Pacing swings between slow, careful exploration and frantic bursts of combat, with inventory and merchant breaks that let nerves settle. The emotional core is a wisecracking government agent doggedly protecting a kidnapped young woman, bantering lightly through the grim. Intensity is high: frequent graphic violence, exploding heads, gore-splattered enemies, a chainsaw-wielding foe, unsettling body horror, jump scares and sustained tension. Little sexual content. Not gentle. Built for players who want relentless atmosphere and action-horror with real bite.
