The story
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is the first game of the Resident Evil series to switch from 3rd-person to fully 1st-person perspective. A complete refresh of gameplay systems simultaneously propels the survival horror experience to another level. It is as much horror as it is survival, boosting up scare elements and minimizing downright shooting action. The game allows use of Sony's PSVR Headset to play in VR mode.
What it’s like
Grimy, lived-in interiors lit by flickering lanterns, dim tungsten bulbs and the cold glow of a handheld torch, with a palette of rust, mildew green and bruised brown that makes every corridor feel damp and close. The first-person camera keeps you pinned inside the frame, so doorways, stairwells and overturned furniture arrive at head height and the shadows at the edges do most of the work. Sound is the real engine here: drips, creaking boards, a distant thud, and long stretches of near silence broken by sudden, sharp stings. The vibe is claustrophobic dread with a slow-burn unease that tips into grim, nasty spectacle, best played alone in a dark room with the lights off. Pacing is deliberate, with long stretches of searching, hiding and puzzle-solving punctuated by bursts of panic, and the emotional arc follows an ordinary man pulled into a family nightmare he cannot easily escape. Intensity is high: frequent gore, graphic injury, cruelty and jump-scare fear, though sexual content is minimal. It suits players who want psychological tension and atmosphere over constant gunplay, and it is not a fit for anyone seeking something gentle.
