The story

Rise of the Tomb Raider is a third-person action-adventure game in which players control Lara Croft as she searches for the legendary city of Kitezh and a promise of immortality. Combat involves firearms, stealth, and melee weapons, while semi-open hub areas offer challenge tombs with puzzles, side missions, and resource scavenging for crafting. Players earn experience and unlock skills across three trees focused on combat, hunting, and survival. The game features an Expeditions mode that allows replaying levels with modifiers in place of traditional multiplayer.

Snow-blasted mountains and dense pine forests under heavy overcast, with the palette tipped toward cold blues and grey-whites broken by warm firelight in caves and ruined stone. The camera sits over Lara's shoulder for nearly everything, so exploration feels close and physical: breath steaming in the cold, gear clanking, the crunch of boots on ice. The score swells with orchestral strings and percussion during climbs and gunfights, then drops away to wind and distant birdsong when you are alone in a valley. Its vibe is wintry, driven, and quietly lonely, the sort of thing to play on a cold weeknight with the lights low. Pacing alternates between long stretches of tracking tracks through the snow and hub-based scavenging, with bursts of violence that are frequent, often bloody, and include explosions and cruel human enemies, though the tone stays earnest rather than grim. Lara's arc is a young woman hardening and finding her footing in a hostile world. It suits players who enjoy survival-action, hunting and crafting, and tombs of light puzzling, and who are comfortable with regular combat.
