The story
India, 1984. After a deadly gas leaks from a factory in Bhopal, brave railway workers risk their lives to save others in the face of an unspeakable disaster.
What it’s like
Dim, smoky night interiors lit by bare bulbs and oil lamps, with the grey-brown haze of a city under gas drifting across the frame, and the grit of railway platforms and waiting rooms rendered in dusty, desaturated tones. The camera stays close and restless in the crowded station scenes, then pulls back to wide, eerily empty streets where the silence feels wrong. Sound leans on the rattle and whistle of trains, distant sirens, coughing and shouted instructions, with a sparse, mournful score that surfaces at quiet moments. Its vibe is grave, urgent and humane, closer to tense dread than to comfort, and it suits a focused evening watch rather than background viewing. The pacing is steady and procedural, building through long stretches of confusion and fear toward collective effort, and its people's arcs follow ordinary workers choosing responsibility under impossible pressure. Intensity is serious: the disaster's aftermath includes many deaths, suffering bodies, and frightening scenes of panic and sickness, with some brief violence and no gratuitous gore. It is for viewers who want a sober, morally weighted historical drama and can handle heavy subject matter.
