What it’s like

Warm, sun-bleached adventure with a cinematic gloss: sweeping jungle canopies, crumbling temple stonework and Himalayan snowfields rendered in rich, painterly detail, with lighting that shifts from dappled green shade to golden dusk and blue-white mountain glare. The camera hugs Nathan Drake's shoulder during climbs and firefights, and cutscenes unfold in tight, well-blocked compositions that feel like a studio blockbuster. Music swells with orchestral brass and strings during set-pieces, then drops to quiet acoustic guitar and ambient wind between them, while banter between characters keeps the mood light and playful. Pacing alternates between fast, rhythmic gunplay and long stretches of climbing, puzzle-solving and exploring ruins, with a steady sense of discovery. The mood is buoyant and adventurous with a streak of wry humour. Violence is frequent and stylised: many gunfights and some hand-to-hand combat, with blood but little gore, and some peril and jump scares rather than sustained dread. Suits players who love Indiana Jones-style treasure hunts, cinematic set-pieces and a relaxed, witty companion dynamic over a long evening at the controller.
